Major Daniel Frickenschmidt was honored with a Combat Action Badge Friday, January 5, 2006 for actions in Iraq by Vice President Dick Cheney.
According to Frickenschmidt, the convoy he was riding in was struck by a VBIED and then attacked by other forces with small arms and RPGs. Frickenschmidt jumped out of the HummV he was riding in and returned fire along with several other troops, securing the area until the enemy disengaged and the QRF had arrived.
The Combat Action Badge is a new badge provided to non-infantry troops who have been in direct combat or "closed and destroyed" the enemies of the United States.
