Click here to hear the United States National Anthem. As a sign of respect, if you are a civillian and not a veteran, you should always stand and remove your hat whenever the flag passes by on parade or the national anthem is played. Your right hand (with or without hat) should be placed over your heart. Men and women currently in the military or who are veterans, commonly stand and salute on the same occassions. Men and women currently in the military will also salute the flag at morning revelry (raising of the flag) and evening taps (lowering the flag).
