In regards to this thesis, I'd say that it's about territory, expansion and resources.<br /><br />If china could reclaim Taiwan, they'd have expanded their territorial waters hugely and would lessen their burden on the shape and area of their pipeline to eastern asia. <br /><br />Let's not forget the all important shipping lanes around there. It's all about money and resources.
